PISCES
We swim in two directions:
both of me look for the way
to find the peace we need to have;
we know one thing: we cannot stray
into the turbulence of love.
Up, towards the surface, lies
the brightening star, the glowing dawn,
and one of me forever tries
to imitate the rising sun.
Below our belly, darkness calls
the Mystic in us to its clasp;
Surrealistic madness falls,
ecstatic silence cannot last.
The sun and moonlight battle -- pain
fills us -- agony ensues;
to dull the anguish, swim again
within the solace of the deep.
We swim in two directions; both
of me escaping hurt,
avoiding pain, denying love
getting nowhere in our search
for peace...

Liz Ewart grew up happy in Kingston, Jamaica. She moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts to attend Harvard College, and to realize how much she hated being cold. She graduated with honors, then worked in various high tech positions in the Boston area, including a stint as a Technical Journalist writing about advanced nuclear reactor designs.
In 1992, she moved to the much warmer locale of Los Angeles, California, and by 1993, had switched from writing/editing to video editing on a wide range of projects. Her first motion picture (editor), "Jackass the Movie," opens nationwide October 25, 2002.
Liz has written a novel, "This Woman's Journey," an autobiographical look at relationships, generously illustrated with her poetry, and is hard at work on a second book. And she writes poems whenever the Muses seize her.
